Amazing food! We had the cuban and the chorizo sandwich. They were both so delicious 🤩 we also had the ground beef empanada, 10/10! The owner is super nice and friendly! Ha gave us 3 croquettes to try. The ham was my favorite but the cod and chorizo were very good as well. Make sure to try the cortadito and coladita if you like coffee. You’ll love those! 😍 Highly recommend this restaurant. Can’t wait to go back again for some more delicious food and coffee!

A Masterclass in Cuban Comfort: Why Mi Bodeguita One is a National Treasure in Sarasota As someone whose career keeps me constantly on the move, traveling to every corner of the country, I have made it a personal, lifelong mission to find the absolute best Cuban food America has to offer. From the historic institutions of Miami and Ybor City to unexpected, hidden gems tucked away across the states, I have ordered cafecitos, pastries, and sandwiches just about everywhere you can imagine. So, when I say that Mi Bodeguita One on Ringling Boulevard in Sarasota serves up some of the most phenomenal, soul-warming, and fiercely authentic Cuban fare in the nation, I say it with the weight of a seasoned traveler's palate behind me. The Atmosphere: Like Stepping Into Abuela's Dining Room The first thing you realize when you walk into Mi Bodeguita One is that you aren’t just entering a business; you are being welcomed into a home. In a world where dining has become increasingly corporate and transactional, the genuine family atmosphere here is a breath of fresh air. The warmth behind the counter is palpable. There is a beautiful, comforting harmony to the place—the steady hiss of the espresso machine pulling perfect Cuban coffee, the rapid-fire Spanish, the laughter sharing space with the intoxicating aroma of baked goods and savory grills. The family running it treats regular locals and first-time travelers with the exact same level of profound hospitality. They take immense pride in what they do, and it reflects completely in how they treat their guests. You don't just leave full; you leave feeling like family. The Star of the Show: Legendary Homemade Cuban Bread Now, let’s talk about the absolute foundation of any elite Cuban spot: the bread. A lot of places across the country cut corners here, sourcing commercial loaves that lack soul. Not here. Mi Bodeguita One makes their homemade Cuban bread from scratch, and if you time it right, you're in for a religious experience. When it was served to us, it was popping hot straight out of the oven. The exterior possesses that flawless, elusive shatter-crisp crust that flakes beautifully upon impact, yielding to a pillowy, steaming-soft interior that smells like heaven. Frankly, you could eat this bread entirely on its own and leave happy. It is a masterclass in traditional baking. The Standout Specialties Because the bread is so spectacular, it elevates everything it touches—especially their breakfast and sandwich game. The Omelette Sandwich (Pan con Tortilla): Utilizing that unbelievable homemade bread, this sandwich is a revelation. The omelette itself is perfectly fluffy, beautifully seasoned, and pressed seamlessly inside the hot, crispy bread. It’s an incredibly comforting, soul-satisfying sandwich that completely redefines breakfast. The Croquettes (Croquetas): Crispy on the outside, incredibly smooth and velvety on the inside, their ham croquettes are flawlessly executed. They have that rich, smoky, deeply savory flavor profile that hits you instantly, avoiding the pastiness that ruins lesser versions. They are the perfect bite-sized comfort food. The Guava Pastry (Pastelito de Guayaba): You absolutely cannot walk past the bakery counter without ordering one of these. The puff pastry layers are intensely buttery and shatter into flakes, perfectly balancing the thick, intensely sweet, and vibrant guava filling. Paired with a fiercely strong coladita, it's the ultimate finish to a meal. The Verdict: A Must-Visit Destination For the locals in Sarasota, you have an absolute treasure right in your backyard. For my fellow travelers passing through the Gulf Coast who are chasing the nostalgic, unpretentious, incredibly deep flavors of a true Cuban bodega, make the detour. Mi Bodeguita One isn't just serving food; they are preserving a culture and sharing their family line through every warm loaf of bread that passes over the counter. In all my travels across the country, this remains an absolute favorite stop. Five stars isn't enough.
