SPEARFISH GRILLE

We found this place a few years ago while driving from Orlando to Captiva and stop here every summer. Best restaurant in the area for lunch. Service is always excellent. They have an outside patio with plenty of fans and are dog friendly. Highlights include the tuna nachos, shrimp or fish tacos, fish and chips (fried grouper). Still need to try the smash burger. Highly recommend if you are in the Sarasota area.

Wow, the food here is really delicious! Unfortunately, we had to wait almost an hour to get a table. But the wait went by pretty quickly because a fun band was playing live music! The food came out very quickly, even though the place was packed to the brim. The shrimp sandwich was divine, and the pulled pork with sweet potatoes was also fantastic. The waiter was super nice and patiently explained everything we asked about. Unfortunately, we were only here for one evening; otherwise, we would have come back again.

Spearfish is a hidden gem tucked away off the south village on Siesta Key. It’s toward the marina, but the restaurant is not situated on the water. It’s almost entirely out door seating with live music most nights. It is an extremely casual atmosphere with an island vibe. Think shorts and flip flops as you may end up sitting on a bench seat with a picnic table. There can be a wait in season and I don’t think they take reservations. But Eric likely will be cooking something on the big green egg outside. He’ll make you something great like bacon oysters or something else spectacular and calorie free while you wait. It’s beer and wine with no hard alcohol. This is the place to go to on the key for fresh fish prepared to perfection. I always take my visitors here. Hogfish and tripletail are my favorites. The tripletail ceviche is always amazing. You pick your fish, tell them how you’d like it prepared, platter, sandwich, tacos, etc. and then pick two sides. It’s as simple as that. Don’t like fish…said no one ever on this island!!! But in the odd event some crazy person with you says this…fear not! Get them an awesome pulled pork sandwich, burger, Cuban or other option. They’ll be fine. 🤣 Can’t go wrong with anything at Spearfish. Note: There is a kids section on the menu that I just noticed. Seemed to have good kid friendly options. We had such a great dinner that we returned a week later. Giovanni was our waiter and he was fabulous as always. We started with the clam chowder and gumbo cups. The gumbo was filled with large shrimp and a ton of sausage. It was great but very filling. It came with two sizable pieces of garlic bread. This could have been enough for a meal. Most of my hogfish sandwich came home with me. My guy couldn’t finish his platter either it was so large. This never happens as he typically cleans my plate too! Spearfish is a great value for the price. They had live music until 9pm. Another good night on the Key. 😃
